IPL 2021 Player Retention: Full list of Retained, Released Players List of all teams and Purse Remaining

Ever since the 2020 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) ended, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has been preparing hard for the next edition. After a lot of deliberation, it was decided that the auction for the upcoming season would take place on February 18 in Chennai with the tournament likely to start in the second week of April.

However, it’s yet not known whether the tournament would stay in the UAE or be shifted back to India. The retentions took place back in January where 139 players were retained by their franchises. The eight teams also let go 57 players from their respective squads. If the tournament takes place in India, the BCCI also needs to pull their socks up, keeping in mind the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mumbai Indians (MI), captained by Rohit Sharma, won the previous edition. They managed to beat the Delhi Capitals (DC) in the final at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. In the last eight seasons, MI won five times and are currently the most successful team in the history of the championship. It remains to be seen how the Indian board plans proceedings from here on.
