IPL 2021: Rajasthan Royals gift a jersey to Chetan Sakariya with his late brother's name on back

Life has not been a bed of roses for the young Chetan Sakariya. The 23-year-old has faced the darkest times and challenges in life at a young age before fortunes finally changed and he earned an INR 1.2 Crore bid from Rajasthan Royals ahead of the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League. He has been billed as one of the talents to watch out for in the ongoing edition of the IPL, and his start has been more than promising, to say the least.

He lost his brother, who died by suicide, and left Chetan shocked to the core. His father is bedridden, having met a road accident. Amidst such heart-breaking challenges, he showed the courage to dream, worked hard enough to make them a reality, and reach where he has all by himself. He finished as one of the top wicket-takers in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, grabbing the eyeballs of his IPL franchise, who identified his potential and placed their bet on him.

In a chat with CricTracker, Sakariya revealed how he could not do any of the activities that kids of his age do. His mother, a housewife, and father, a tempo driver, supported him, although he had to brave many storms, take the burden of family responsibilities on his young shoulders, and even today, he is the sole breadwinner in his house.

Chetan’s mother revealed how close he was with his brother, and how his world turned upside down after he realized that he was no more around. The youngster also revealed how responsibilities suddenly came upon him after his brother left him.

Realizing how much his brother means to him, his IPL franchise, Rajasthan Royals, paid a tribute to through a heart-warming gesture. Dedicating a team jersey with number 28 and initials R.K. imprinted on its back, the shirt has a “Miss you bro” message written over it, and has been gifted by the franchise to their newest member, Chetan.

Showing the spirit of a warrior, Sakariya has got back on his feet and is galloping towards something much bigger after overcoming the many setbacks in life. Sakariya’s is a story for one and all to take inspiration from.
