IPL 2021: Which players have set the highest base price for the auction?

As the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is gearing up for the highly-anticipated 14th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), the player registration window for IPL 2021 closed on February 14, 2021, with as many as 1097 players including 814 from India and 283 overseas signing up to be a part of the IPL 2021 Player Auction set to take place in Chennai on 18th February 2021.

The players from as many as 15 foreign countries have registered for the IPL 2021 auction. Only 61 maximum spots are up for grabs with only 22 of them reserved for the overseas players. The players’ list features 207 capped, 863 uncapped, and 27 Associate players.

Coming to the base price, a total of 11 players have registered themselves at the highest base price of INR 2 crore. As reported by ESPNCricinfo, the players who have registered themselves in the 2 crore bracket includes Glenn Maxwell, Steve Smith, Shakib Al Hasan, Kedar Jadhav, Harbhajan Singh, Moeen Ali, Sam Billings, Liam Plunkett, Jason Roy, Mark Wood, and Colin Ingram.

Arjun Tendulkar lists his name for IPL 2021

The number 1 ranked batsman in T20 batsmen’s rankings by International Cricket Council (ICC), Dawid Malan, who is yet to make his debut in IPL, also listed himself for IPL 2021 at a base price of INR 1.5 crore while the other players in the same bracket include Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Alex Carey, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Jhye Richardson, Tom Curran, Alex Hales, and David Willey.

One of the most prominent names to register in the upcoming IPL auctions is India’s veteran pacer S Sreesanth. Sreesanth made a comeback in the game of cricket after fighting a long legal battle as he was banned from the game for allegedly getting involved in the 2013 IPL spot-fixing controversy. The seamer has registered himself at a base price of INR 75 lakh.

Aaron Finch, Umesh Yadav, Hanuma Vihari, Marnus Labuschagne, and Sheldon Cottrell have listed their base prices at INR 1 crore while Arjun Tendulkar, son of Sachin Tendulkar, who made his debut domestic debut for Mumbai in the 2021 edition of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy has also listed his name for a base price of INR 20 lakhs.
