The IPL 2022 mega auction is all set to take place in Bangalore during 12-13 February and a total of 590 players are set to go under the hammer in the showpiece event. With two franchises joining the contest, the 15th edition of IPL is expected to be an exciting affair. It remains to be seen how teams will walk up with their strategies to get the right picks in the mega auction with their remaining budgets.

In the same line of events, former opener Aakash has expected a player to bag the highest bid among the list of marquee players. The marquee players list has the names of Ravi Ashwin, Shreyas Iyer, David Warner, Quinton de Kock, Mohammed Shami, Pat Cummins, Faf du Plessis, and Trent Boult. Chopra believes that the absence of Ishan Kishan in the above list could see Iyer bagging the most expensive bid in the mega auction and it would’ve been a tug of war had Kishan been on the list.

“The most expensive player, to be very honest, is going to be Shreyas Iyer. In this list, the most expensive will be Iyer because Ishan Kishan is not there (in the list of marquee players shared by Chopra). If Ishan was there, there could’ve been a tug of war. Now, they will reserve money for Ishan and money will be splashed out for Iyer,” said Chopra in a video uploaded on Koo.

I don’t think Punjab would be looking at Iyer, says Aakash Chopra

Moving further in his video, the former cricketer assumed Iyer to be a potential skipper of KKR or RCB and PBKS won’t be looking at him. It has to be noted that Iyer, who was the former skipper of DC, was released by his franchise ahead of IPL 2022 mega auction. And with teams already on the lookout for their skippers, Iyer might be able to bag a hefty deal in the showpiece event.

“Shreyas Iyer could be a potential captain of KKR or RCB. I don’t think Punjab would be looking at him,” added Chopra.
