IPL 2022: Best XI from the fifth week of the season

The 15th edition of the Indian Premier League is now five weeks old. The new IPL franchise Gujarat Titans is ruling the points table since the start of the season. The most successful IPL franchise Mumbai Indians have lost eight games in a row and have already got knocked out of the race for the playoffs. The situation of the Chennai Super Kings are also not too different from MI. CSK has managed to win two games out of eight and are at the ninth position in the points table. Rajasthan Royals are also having a great season with the courtesy of Jos Butler. LSG, RCB, and SRH are having a good season too, it seems that two of them should qualify for the playoffs. Delhi Capitals, Punjab Kings, and Kolkata Knight Riders will try their best to keep their chances alive. The Orange Cap is with the explosive Jos Butler who is having a dream season in 2022 scoring 499 runs in eight games. He has been playing IPL right from the inaugural edition of it. He has scored 6091 IPL runs in 200 games at an average of 35.01. He has scored two hundreds as well and both of them came in consecutive games last season. Punjab Kings defeated the Chennai Super Kings on Monday 25th of April. Shikhar played a solid knock of 88 off 59 balls and took PBKS to a good great score of 187 in 20 overs. He made a great partnership with Bhanuka Rajapaksa for the second wicket. Having an experienced batter like Shikhar is a blessing for Punjab and they will want him to play many more good innings for them. 2. KL Rahul (wk) KL Rahul. (Photo Source: IPL/BCCI) The classy opener loves the Orange Cap and there is no doubt about it. Every season he stays on the list of top run-scorers. KL Rahul is having a great IPL 2022 too. As of now, he has scored 374 runs in nine games of IPL 2022 at an average of 53.43 He has scored two hundreds and a fifty in this season of which a hundred came in the fifth week. The Lucknow Super Giants played against Mumbai Indians on Sunday, April 24th. KL scored his second hundred against MI this season scoring 103 off 62 balls. LSG defeated MI by 36 runs and KL was named the man of the match. The Lucknow skipper is undoubtedly one of the best batters in the league and hopefully, fans will get to see some more incredible knocks from him. 3. Abhishek Sharma Abhishek Sharma. Abhishek has been SRH’s leading run-scorer this season scoring 285 runs in eight matches at an average of 35.62. He has scored two fifties alongside some quickfire cameos that won everyone’s hearts. SRH played two games this week against RCB and GT respectively. In their first game of the week, SRH packed RCB for just 68 runs and won the game in just eight overs. Abhishek scored a solid 47 off 28 balls. SRH played against GT on Wednesday 27th of March, Abhishek scored a classy 65 off 42 balls and put SRH to a good score of 195. 4. Hardik Pandya (c) Hardik Pandya. (Photo Source: IPL/BCCI) Hardik has proved to be the best skipper in IPL 2022 till now as he has led the franchise from the front. Hardik is a star of the Indian Premier League and after playing 99 IPL games, he has scored 1781 runs at an average of 30.19. He used to bat at the lower middle-order for Mumbai Indians but he is now a well-settled middle-order batter for the Gujarat Titans. The explosive all-rounder has played seven games in IPL 2022 scoring 305 runs at an average of 61 with three quality fifties this season. Hardik played two games this week and accumulated valuable 77 runs. Hardik’s GT played against Shreyas’ KKR on the 23rd of April where Hardik came out to bat at number three and scored a great 67 off 49 balls to put his side in a good situation. 5. Riyan made his IPL debut for Rajasthan Royals in 2019 against Chennai Super Kings. Since then, he has been with the Royals. He has played 38 IPL games till now and has scored 443 runs in them. He has played many impactful cameos for RR. Rajasthan Royals just played one game in the fifth week of IPL 2022 and defeated RCB in that by 29 runs. RR batted first and lost some early wickets. Parag came at number six and scored a quality 56 off 31 balls including four sixes and three fours and put RR to a good fighting total of 144. Hopefully, fans will see some more amazing knocks from the Assam cricketer in the future. 6. Andre Russell Andre Russell. (Photo Source: IPL/BCCI) The powerful all-rounder from Jamaica has been one of the biggest match-winners for the Kolkata Knight Riders for quite a long time now. He is such a valuable all-rounder that every cricket team in the world will want to have him. Andre has played 92 IPL games and has scored 1927 runs at a strike rate of 178.76. He also has 82 IPL wickets to his name. KKR played against GT on Saturday 23rd of April in which Andre Russell showed an excellent all-around performance. He scored 48 runs off just 25 balls with the bat hitting six sixes and one four. He also picked four wickets in a single over that he bowled for just five runs. KKR will have to figure out a lot of permutations and combinations to qualify for the playoffs and it will not be possible without Andre Russell. 7. Rahul Tewatia Rahul Tewatia. His performances in the last few IPL season have been commendable as he can really strike the cricket ball for big maximums. In IPL 2022 too, Tewatia is a prominent player for the Gujarat Titans. He has batted with a strike rate of 158.14 in eight games that he has played till now. Tewatia made a quickfire 40 of 21 balls against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Wednesday 27th of April and that knock turned out to be a match-winning one for the Gujarat Titans. His cameo innings, at last, prove to be very crucial for the Ahmedabad-based franchise. He is pretty handy with the ball as well and has been a complete T20 package. 8. Rashid Khan Rashid Khan (Photo Source: Twitter) The spinning wizard is now a reliable lower-order batter too. Rashid Khan is a global star in T20 cricket as he stands out to be a match-winner in the shortest format. Despite playing so many IPL seasons, many batters have still not figured out how to pick his variations. He has picked 101 wickets in 84 IPL games at an outstanding bowling average of 21.18. The Gujarat Titans have named Rashid the vice-captain of the team and fans saw him captaining the Titans in a match too while Pandya was out. The best thing about Rashid Khan as a bowler is his economy rate. He is bowling with an economy rate of 7.09 this season which is brilliant. Alongside his bowling skills, Rashid has evolved as a batter too. His 31 off 11 balls against SRH assured GT a win over them. 9. Umran Malik Umran Malik. He was introduced by Sunrisers Hyderabad last year and he is getting everyone’s attention since then. In IPL 2022, he has 15 wickets to his name in eight matches at a bowling average of 15.93. The 22-year-old took a five-wicket haul against Gujarat Titans on Wednesday 27th of April. Gujarat lost only five wickets in that game and all of those five wickets were picked by Umran himself. Fans might see Umran playing for India very soon. He has impressed the former cricketers and all the cricket fans around the globe alike. 10. Kuldeep Yadav Kuldeep Yadav. (Photo Source: IPL/BCCI) Fans have seen a very improved Kuldeep Yadav in 2022. The way he is bowling for Delhi Capitals in IPL 2022 is simply outstanding. Yadav has dismissed 17 batters in this edition of eight games at a bowling average of 14.11. He has picked eight wickets in two games against his old franchise Kolkata Knight Riders. DC will wish him to continue bowling the way he is doing till now. The chinaman dismissed four of the KKR batters in DC’s last encounter against KKR for just 14 runs in three overs. Kuldeep is an asset for the Delhi-based franchise and him getting back to form is good news for the Indian Cricket Team as well. Kuldeep is one of the top contenders to win the purple cap for IPL 2022. He is currently behind Yuzvendra Chahal on the list. 11. Kuldeep Sen Kuldeep Sen. (Photo Source: Twitter/IPL) The young RR pacer Kuldeep Sen looked unplayable while bowling against RCB. Kuldeep is a young and talented medium-pacer from Madhya Pradesh. Kuldeep made his IPL debut against Lucknow Super Giants in the ongoing season and looks like someone with a lot of potential and caliber to sustain at the top level of cricket. The 25-year-old dismissed four RCB batters when RR played against RCB on Tuesday 26th of April. Sen took the wickets of Du Plessis, Maxwell, Hasaranga, and Harshal for just 20 runs in his spell. He has played three games this season and hopefully, RR will stick with him for the rest of the season. Getting more opportunities will boost his confidence a lot.
