Indian senior batter Virat Kohli hailed the young Mumbai Indians batter Dewald Brevis after a group stage match played between the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and the Mumbai Indians (MI) on April 9 (Saturday). The 33-year-old met Brevis after the match and asked him if the batter was having a good time in the Indian Premier League (IPL), to which Brevis replied that he was having a good experience.

To note, the Red Army managed to pip the five-time champions by a comfortable margin of seven wickets, with nine balls to spare. RCB opener Anuj Rawat was adjudged the Player of the Match for his vital innings of 66 off just 47 balls, including two fours and six maximums.

Dewald Brevis dismissed Virat Kohli for 48

In a 19-second video uploaded by MI’s official Twitter handle, Kohli can be seen shaking hands with the young South African batter and casually joking about Brevis getting the better of him during RCB chase. To note, Kohli was batting on 48 off just 36 balls, when he was adjudged LBW by the umpire off Brevis’ bowling. Notably, the Proteas youngster dismissed Kohli with the very first ball of his IPL career.

Coming back to the match, RCB skipper Faf du Plessis, after winning the toss, invited Mumbai to bat first. The opening duo of Ishan Kishan and skipper Rohit Sharma stitched a valuable partnership of 50 runs. However, MI skipper was scalped by pacer Harshal Patel, right after the powerplay. Kishan was then joined by Brevis, but they both could only manage to add ten runs before a collapse followed. MI were looking down and out at 79/6. However, batting heroics from Suryakumar Yadav (68 off 37 balls) ensured that they finished with a respectable total of 151/6.

Chasing a target of 152, RCB did not stutter in their chase at all. Hefty contributions from opener Anuj Rawat (66 off 47 balls) and Virat Kohli (48 off 36 balls) ensured that the Red Army chased down the target easily. Skipper Faf du Plessis (16 off 24 balls), Dinesh Karthik (7 off 2 balls) and Glenn Maxwell (8 off 2 balls) were other contributors for RCB.
