KL Rahul’s brilliance with the bat and Mohsin Khan’s four-wicket haul was too hot to handle for the Delhi Capitals (DC) as they got defeated by six runs in Match 45 of IPL 2022 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Rahul continued his red-hot form in this campaign as he scored 77 runs off 51 deliveries with four fours and five maximums. Mohsin was excellent in his spell, picking up the big wickets of David Warner, Rishabh Pant, Rovman Powell, and Shardul Thakur.

Speaking about how the northern derby panned out, Rahul won the toss and LSG elected to field first. Wicketkeeper batter Quinton de Kock scored a quickfire 23 off just 13 with three fours and a maximum. Deepak Hooda, who batted at no. 3, played a crucial knock of 52 off 34, which included six fours and a solitary six. He also registered the highest score for LSG at the no. three spot. Half-centuries from Rahul and Hooda took the new franchise to a huge total of 195/3 in 20 overs. Shardul Thakur took all the three wickets for DC in his four overs spell in which he conceded 40 runs.

The Capital’s got off a poor start as Prithvi Shaw once again got dismissed off a short ball for just five runs while his opening partner David Warner managed three runs. Mitchell Marsh looked in solid touch as the Australian amassed 37 runs off 20 balls with three fours and as many maximums. Captain Pant got out for 44 runs off 30 deliveries with DC’s hopes relying on Powell.

The big-hitting Caribbean looked dangerous and threatened to take the game away as he mustered 35 runs off 21 deliveries but Mohsin got rid of him to bring his side back into the contest. Axar Patel kept fighting with his knock of an unbeaten 42 runs but it wasn’t enough as LSG sealed yet another victory. They moved to the second position with 14 points while DC occupy the sixth spot with eight points. For his outstanding match-winning spell of 4/16, Mohsin won the Player of the Match award.
