The 55th game of the IPL 2022 witnessed the Chennai Super Kings square off against the Delhi Capitals at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. While CSK are on the brink of elimination due to their multiple defeats, DC needed some important victories in the kitty to keep the playoff hopes alive but they could not get this one as CSK defeated them by a humongous margin of 91 runs.

CSK’s opening pair of Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway was yet again relentless. Gaikwad (41 off 33) playing the fearless shots and Conway timing his hits to perfection helped them put a 100-run stand before the former was dismissed by Anrich Nortje in the 11th over. Shivam Dube made his return to the side and joined Conway as the two sailed past the middle-overs with ease.

Conway played a beautiful knock of 87(49) as Dube supported him with a 32(19). The death overs witnessed a collapse as five wickets came off the final four overs. But that did not shake the Yellow Army’s confidence. It was the finisher and skipper MS Dhoni who walked out in the death overs, which is also said to be his area of expertise. He remained unbeaten scoring a quick-fire 8-ball 21* as CSK posted 208/6 at the end of the innings.

For the chase, David Warner and Srikar Bharat (8 off 5) walked out with the bat to open the innings. The latter was scalped in the second over of the game as Simarjeet Singh gave his team the breakthrough. While it looked like Warner (19 off 12) was in a mood to fire, he was soon taken down by Maheesh Theekshana well within the powerplay. Skipper Rishabh Pant (21 off 11) and Mitchell Marsh (25 off 20) took the game into their hands as they steadied the innings for DC clearing the powerplay with a good total of 59 runs.

Thanks to Moeen Ali, who scalped three wickets in two overs, DC were down to 82/5 at the end of 10 overs. The collapse continued when Mukesh Choudhary picked two in the 11th over to gain the upper hand. The bowlers made no mistakes later and dished out the entire DC line-up for 117 runs as CSK defeated the in-form DC by a whopping 91 runs to get their Net Run Rate to the positive side.
