IPL 2022: Match 59 – Predicted Chennai Super Kings Playing XI vs Mumbai Indians

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have four wins in 11 league matches of the Indian Premier League 2022. They have to win their remaining three games to have an outside chance of qualifying for the playoffs. In their last league match, they secured a victory against Delhi Capitals (DC) by 91 runs.

The good form of the openers provided the team with a fantastic start followed by the middle-order providing a late flourish, while the bowlers were back with their wicket-taking abilities. In the next league match, they will be up against their arch-rivals, Mumbai Indians (MI). For this game, they are not expected to make any changes in their line-up.

Here’s a look at the Chennai Super Kings predicted playing XI against MI:

Openers: Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway

After making a comeback into the playing XI, the Kiwi batter Devon Conway has been terrific with his consistent scores. His knocks in the recent three matches read as 85*, 56 and 87. Out of these three knocks, the team secured victory on two occasions. His whirlwind innings of 87 off 49 balls in the last league game against the Capitals helped the team to improve their net run rate.

On the other hand, Ruturaj Gaikwad had a disappointing start but has come back to form in the last few matches with the able support of Conway. In the last three matches, he has garnered a total of 168 runs. In total, the right-hander has 306 runs at an average of 27.81.

The opening duo has stitched partnerships of 110, 54 and 182 in the recent three games. They have been a key force to overcome one of the weakest points of the team this season and would look to continue the same form in the upcoming matches as well.

Middle Order: Robin Uthappa, Ambati Rayudu, MS Dhoni (c & wk)

The middle-order of the CSK team constitutes players who have been part of the tournament since its inception and have a lot of experience in this format of the game. The 36-year-old Robin Uthappa has done well in the tournament contributing 229 runs at a strike rate of 138.78. However, he hasn’t troubled the scorers in the last two fixtures as his scores read as 1 and 0.

Ambati Rayudu has garnered 261 runs in 11 matches at an average of 29, and a strike rate of 127.94. He has also not been able to contribute enough in the last two appearances and would look to return back in form against the Mumbai Indians.

On the other hand, captain MS Dhoni has 163 runs at an average of 32.60 and a strike rate of 139.31. In the last game, he remained unbeaten on 21 off eight balls, smashing two sixes. The talisman will be crucial for the team’s chances in the remaining games.

All-rounders: Dwayne Bravo, Moeen Ali, Shivam Dube

The spin-bowling all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has been ruled out of IPL 2022 after suffering an injury in the upper body. On the other hand, Shivam Dube is likely to retain his place. In the last game, Dube slammed 32 off 19 balls, with two fours and two sixes. In total, he has scored 279 runs at a strike rate of 160.34.

The Caribbean all-rounder Dwayne Bravo has scalped 16 wickets in nine games at an economy of 8.75. In the last outing, he picked up two wickets at an economy of nine. Although he is a quality batter, Bravo has not got enough opportunities with the bat this season.

The batting all-rounder Moeen Ali came back into the team against RCB and contributed 34 runs with the bat and two wickets with the ball, he followed it up by taking three wickets and scoring nine runs against the Delhi Capitals. Certainly, he will be a key player, especially with the ball.

Bowlers: Maheesh Theekshana, Simarjeet Singh, Mukesh Choudhary

The young bowling unit of CSK has done well in terms of putting brakes on the opposition and picking up wickets at regular intervals. The budding pacer Simarjeet Singh has so far scalped two wickets at an economy of nine. In the last game, he finished with figures of 2/27 off four overs and impressed everyone with his pace and accuracy.

Sri Lankan spinner, Maheesh Theekshana has been one of the best spinners in the ongoing season. In eight matches, he has scalped a total of 12 wickets at an economy of 7.40 and has regularly picked up wickets in the powerplay as well as death overs.

Mukesh Choudhary started off the tournament on an average note, but has gradually improved his form and is providing breakthroughs for the team with the new ball. The youngster has picked up 13 wickets in 10 matches at an economy of 9.62. In the last game, he took two wickets and gave away 22 runs in three overs.
