The big-name players are a regular feature of this tournament, and to land those big players, you need to spend some big bucks as well. The <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/t20/ipl-indian-premier-league/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">IPL 2022</a> auction saw two new franchises enter the pool.

A total of 590 cricketers went under the hammer during the two-day mega auction on February 12 and 13 in Bengaluru. Of these, 204 Indian and 67 overseas players were bought by ten franchises for Rs. 5,51,70,00,000. Ishan Kishan was the most expensive buy of 2022 and the third overall behind Chris Morris and Yuvraj Singh.

The Knight Riders bagged Shreyas Iyer after a bidding war with Gujarat Titans in the auction before IPL 2022. The former Delhi skipper was roped in to lead the team in this year&#8217;s tournament after leading the Delhi Capitals to the playoffs two times.

A classy top-order batter who can play in several positions, Iyer is considered to be the next big thing in the international arena. But the right-hander has often been inconsistent with his performances and has ended up warming the bench for the Indian team.

Liam Livingstone&#8217;s reputation as a big-hitter was cemented on the international stage when he smacked a sensational 42-ball century against Pakistan in 2021. Royal Challengers Bangalore retained just three players before the auction to free up some funds for new players. RCB made two smart signings in the form of Harshal Patel and Wanindu Hasaranga.

He joined KKR in the latter stages of the tournament and had an instant impact. The right-arm quick was crucial in their run-up to the finals last year as he tightened things up at the back end of the innings for the two-time winners.

A total of 590 cricketers went under the hammer during the two-day mega auction on February 12 and 13 in Bengaluru. Of these, 204 Indian and 67 overseas players were bought by ten franchises for Rs. 5,51,70,00,000. Ishan Kishan was the most expensive buy of 2022 and the third overall behind Chris Morris and Yuvraj Singh.

Kishan&#8217;s international career was off to a flying start when the attacking left-hander scored half-centuries on his T20I and ODI debut and was adjudged man of the match on both occasions. Kishan was expected to be Mumbai&#8217;s main man at the top-order after the departure of Quinton de Kock.
But the price tag seemed to put extra pressure on the shoulder of the youngster as he struggled in IPL 2022. Although Kishan ended the tournament with a decent output of 418 runs, the bulk of his runs came at the latter stages of IPL 2022. His underwhelming performance was one of the many reasons behind Mumbai&#8217;s failure this year.

The 29-year-old is no mug with the bat either, as he has two half-centuries to his name in ODIs for India.
The right-arm quick suffered a quadricep injury in the third T20I against West Indies and was due to miss the early stages of IPL 2022. But he suffered another injury during his recovery and was ruled out for this year&#8217;s tournament completely. CSK suffered heavily due to the absence of their star bowler as they finished the tournament with just four wins to their name.

A classy top-order batter who can play in several positions, Iyer is considered to be the next big thing in the international arena. But the right-hander has often been inconsistent with his performances and has ended up warming the bench for the Indian team.

Liam Livingstone&#8217;s reputation as a big-hitter was cemented on the international stage when he smacked a sensational 42-ball century against Pakistan in 2021. His century incidentally is the fastest by an Englishman in T20Is. The Punjab Kings secured his services for a hefty price of INR 11.50 crore in the IPL 2022 auction.

Royal Challengers Bangalore retained just three players before the auction to free up some funds for new players. RCB made two smart signings in the form of Harshal Patel and Wanindu Hasaranga.
