IPL 2022: Reason why RCB players are wearing black armbands against CSK

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) faced the four-time champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the 22nd match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Tuesday (April 12). It is a nostalgic moment for the fans with Faf du Plessis leading RCB against the team for whom he played throughout his IPL career until the 2021 season. Moreover, Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni are also up and against each other. More than the battle between them, the bonding between the legendary duo is what excites the fans.

However, amidst the excitement, RCB players wearing black armbands left many perplexed. The team led by Du Plessis missed the services of their premier pacer Harshal Patel in this game as he left the bio-bubble soon after their previous encounter against the five-time champions Mumbai Indians on April 9.

The reason for the same was the unfortunate passing away of his sister. And RCB players are showing solidarity with their teammate Harshal Patel and his family by wearing black armbands. It is a tough moment for the cricketer and his family and it is a good gesture from the franchise. Hindi commentator Aakash Chopa confirmed the news as well while on air at the start of the match.

RCB make two changes while CSK go unchanged

Interestingly, despite losing their fourth consecutive game CSK went in unchanged for the crucial game against RCB. They backed their existing players to do well. RCB, on the other hand, had to make a couple of changes for different reasons. Australia pacer Josh Hazlewood was available for this game and he walked into the playing XI in place of left-arm seamer David Willey.

As for the other change, Harshal Patel would’ve played in normal circumstances. But since he is with his family right now, Suyash Prabhudessai got his opportunity for the first time in the cash-rich league. RCB have won three matches already in four matches and will be keen on continuing their winning in the near future while CSK will be desperately looking to resurrect their season soon.
