While the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) concluded just over a month ago, preparations for the next season are underway. All the eight existing franchises have been asked to submit the list of retained players by Tuesday (November 30). With the deadline approaching, officials and owners of all sides would be busy finalizing the retention list.

For the unversed, a mega auction will take place ahead of the next season. Hence, many sides are to undergo a revamp. Notably, a franchise can retain a maximum of just four players, out of which only two can be foreigners. As most of the teams are studded with T20 stalwarts, finalizing the list of retained players would require some brainstorming.

IPL 2022 will be a 10-team affair

It has to be noted that not all non-retained players will land in the auction pool. IPL 2022 will be a 10-team affair with two new teams coming into the picture. The two new franchises – based in Lucknow and Ahmedabad respectively – can pick a maximum of three players from the list of non-retained players ahead of the bidding event. Also, no right-to-match card will be available in the auction event. Hence, it would be interesting to see who’ll be retained and who’ll be released.
