David Warner and Rovman Powell were involved in a sturdy unbeaten partnership of 122 runs for Delhi Capitals in their last game against SRH. While Warner remained unbeaten on 92 runs towards the end, Powell was equally stunning with his 67* off 35. Though Warner’s fiery innings against his former side took the center stage, fans were all willing to see his ton in Mumbai.

Talking in the same sequence, Powell revealed the conversation between him and the Australian batter in the final over of DC’s innings. Powell asked Warner if he wants him to take a single and let him complete his hundred. However, Warner told him that this is not how the game of cricket is played and he should smack as hard as he can.

“At the start of the over, I asked, ‘do you want a single to try and get a hundred?’ He said, ‘Listen, that is not how cricket is played. You should try to smack as far as you can,’ and I did that,” said Powell while speaking to Star Sports.

I said to Pant, just trust me and let me bat at no.5: Rovmal Powell

Warner’s innings were all the more special as they came against his former side with whom he didn’t end on a positive note last year. After being sacked from the captaincy of the Orange Army, he was also left from the playing XI of the side. Moving up in the conversation, Powell also went on to reveal how he asked DC skipper Rishabh Pant to trust him at No.5 and stated that his ability to tackle spin has leveled up in the last year.

“I had a conversation with Rishabh. He asked me where I want to bat. I said, just trust me and let me bat at no.5. Over the last year, my ability to play spin has increased, I play spin a lot better. So, I just told him to trust me at no.5, give me a chance to start,” added Powell.
