Some disciplined bowling performance from the Delhi Capitals (DC) ensured that the Punjab Kings got thrashed in their second last encounter of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. DC bowled extremely well and gave nothing away to the PBKS batters.

PBKS skipper Mayank Agarwal won the toss and opted to have a bowl first. His decision was proven right as the in-form batter David Warner got out on the very first ball of the match. The innings was then stabilized by the Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh along with Indian batter Lalit Yadav.

After the fall of Yadav, DC skipper Rishabh Pant came and fell for just seven runs while West Indies all-rounder Rovman Powell could not get going either. Indian all-rounder Axar Patel, along with Marsh, tried to hold the DC innings. However, Marsh got out during the end overs as DC managed to score 159 runs in their allotted 20 overs.

For PBKS, Liam Livingstone was the pick of the bowlers as he scalped three wickets and gave away just 27 runs. Arshdeep Singh also took three wickets while express pacer Kagiso Rabada took one.

PBKS had a flying start in their chase

PBKS openers Jonny Bairstow and Shikhar Dhawan gave a flying start to the team as they scored 38 runs in just 3.4 overs, subsequent to which South African pacer Anrich Nortje gave a vital breakthrough to his team, dismissing Bairstow. After that, it was only one-way traffic as none of the batters, apart from Jitesh Sharma and Rahul Chahar, managed to cross the double-figure mark.

For DC, all-rounder Shardul Thakur scalped four wickets apart from Nortje (one wicket), Axar Patel (two wickets), and Kuldeep Yadav (two wickets). After winning tonight’s encounter, DC has reached fourth in the points table. Meanwhile, PBKS is currently placed seventh in the points table.
