It was a high-scoring encounter between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in Match seven of 2022 Indian Premier League (IPL) played at Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai on March 31 (Thursday). Chasing 211 to win, LSG were put over the line by player of the match Evin Lewis in last over of the match.

Winning the toss, LSG skipper KL Rahul invited CSK to have a bat first and Men in Yellow came down all guns blazing. Apart from Ruturaj Gaikwad (1 off 4 balls), all CSK batters provided vital contributions in batting. Opener batter Robin Uthappa (50 off 27 balls), along with Moeen Ali (35 off 22 balls) took the charge for CSK and kept the score moving in and around 10-run per over.

Both Moeen and Uthappa fell in quick succession. However, the wickets did not stop CSK’s momentum as left-handed-batter Shivam Dube (49 off 30 balls) and Ambati Rayudu (27 off 20 balls) took the charge. Despite all the chaos around him and pacers taking a beating, LSG spinner Ravi Bishnoi was superb in his bowling, scalping two wickets and giving away 24 runs in his quota. However, skipper Ravindra Jadeja and former captain MS Dhoni gave quite an excellent finish to their side with CSK making 210/7 in their 20 overs. Apart from Bishnoi, pacers Avesh Khan and Andrew Tye got two wickets each, but they were quite expensive leaking runs at almost ten an over.

Rectifying their errors from the previous match, opener Quinton de Kock (61 off 45 balls) and skipper KL Rahul (40 off 26 balls) provided the  best start to their side. LSG were scoring at a good pace, making 98/0 in the first ten overs. However, skipper Rahul was dismissed by South African all-rounder Dwaine Pretorius. Manish Pandey was sent back to pavilion in the very next over.

After the fall of Pandey, West Indian batter Evin Lewis took the crease and start to bash CSK bowlers. Just when LSG were looking to press the foot, de Kock was scalped by Pretorius. However it did not affect Lewis, as he continued his assault. With more than 60 runs needed in last five overs, the left-handed batter played an excellent knock of 55* of just 23 balls, smacking six fours and three maximums. Along with Lewis, Deepak Hooda (13 off 8 balls) and young batter Ayush Badoni (19* off 9 balls) sealed the deal for LSG as CSK lost their second match on the trot.
