Carrying the reputation of being the most accomplished IPL batsman in the death overs, MS Dhoni had one elusive innings where he utterly looked perplexed to fetch runs. Until this match against KKR, the RPS franchise was positioned at the rearmost end of the points table and eventually needed to win every game to qualify for the top four. By winning the toss in a rain-interrupted game, RPS decided to bat first, and with 67 for 2 in 10 overs, the team was expected to post a competitive total.

However, with the fall of two quick wickets brought captain Dhoni at the crease, and with 10.3 overs of play left, a typical MS Dhoni innings was the need of the hour for RPS. In reality, by trying to up the ante, Dhoni vigorously struggled against the likes of Piyush Chawla and Sunil Narine, as by the end of the RPS innings, the team only made 104 runs.

Overall in a must-win contest, Dhoni from his unbeaten single-digit score couldn’t fetch a single boundary. The rain-interrupted game meant KKR only had to chase 66 runs from nine overs and to further make it easy, Yusuf Pathan took RPS bowlers to cleaners by eventually finishing the game in five overs.
