A clash between the table toppers, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Delhi Daredevils (DD) at Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Cricket Stadium, Naya Raipur in the 52nd match of the IPL 2016. For Delhi, it’s a must-win game to keep their hopes alive to make it to the playoffs and they had just won one match out of their last 5 encounters before this match.

Sunrisers were asked to bat by the Daredevils skipper Zaheer Khan. They had a good start but two run outs set them back, but the skipper David Warner laid the platform with his 73 runs off 56 balls which include 8 fours and a six, which laid the platform for a score of 158 runs for the loss of 7 wickets.

In reply, even though the inform batsmen Quinton de Kock was dismissed early, Rishabh Pant and Karun Nair stood together for a 73-run partnership for the second wicket. After the dismissal of Pant, Nair continued to play well and went on to score 83 not out to win the match for his side in a nail-biting encounter which went all the way down to the last ball.

1. Two run-outs at the top for SRH:

Sunrisers Hyderabad had a good start with Shikhar Dhawan and David Warner adding 46 runs for the first wicket. Dhawan hit a full delivery from Carlos Brathwaite towards mid-on and hurtled away for the run, but Brathwaite did well to stop the ball and fired an accurate throw at the striker’s end to see the end of Dhawan. In a similar manner, Deepak Hooda was run out by Amit Mishra on his own bowling at the non-striker’s end to leave SRH at 48 for 2 from 46 for no loss.

2. David Warner played the captains knock:

After a good start at the top of the order, the SRH middle order collapsed with Hooda going for just 1 run, Yuvraj Singh for just 10 runs and Moises Henriques for 18 runs, skipper Warner stayed at the crease and held the innings together with his 73 off 56 balls. Apart from the skipper, no one made any significant contribution.

3. Brathwaite effect:

Carlos Brathwaite, who has been included in the squad as a replacement for Chris Morris had been highly effective in this game. After the first run out, he picked up the key wickets of Warner and Yuvraj. Later on, he took a really good catch off the bowling of Coulter-Nile at the boundary to dismiss Eoin Morgan. As a whole, he had a great impact in the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

4. Rishabh Pant – Karun Nair partnership:

After the early dismissal of Quinton de Kock, the young duo of Rishabh Pant and Karun Nair played really well to add 73 runs for the second wicket, before Pant was run out on the score of 32. This partnership laid a perfect foundation for the chase. Despite losing his partner Nair stayed there till the end and went on to score 83 not out. He had his share of luck when he was dropped on 51 by David Warner off the bowling of Barinder Sran.

5. Match-winning knock from Karun Nair:

Karun Nair probably played one of the best knocks of his IPL career. Coming at no.3, he played brilliantly to score 83 runs off 59 balls with 8 fours and 3 sixes. He started slowly but changed his gears at the back end of the innings, just at the right time which is exactly what the team needed. In the last over he hit two short balls off Bhuvneshwar Kumar for two boundaries to ensure his team sailed over the line. Karun Nair was awarded as the ‘Man of the Match’, and he marked this as his best IPL inning.
