IPL a major agent in the evolution of cricket says West Indies legend Viv Richards

Former West Indies legend Sir Vivian Richards had a different swag when he used to walk with the willow in his hand, chewing gum. Had he played the T20s and faced the bowlers of the current era, he would set the game on fire. He would’ve been one of the finest cricketers in the world. During his days, Richards demolished some of the legendary bowlers of his era and has helped the game evolve during his cricketing days.

However, the legendary batsman feels that Indian Premier League has played a major role in the evolution of the game. Richards wrote a column for Times of India where he said that cricket has been changing quickly and IPL has played a massive role. Gavaskar said that in the past 10 years, IPL is one of the foremost agents in evolving the game. According to Richards, younger and experienced players have been inventing new shots and working on mysterious deliveries.

“Cricket is quickly evolving, and the IPL is one of the foremost agents responsible for doing so for the last 10 years. Young cricketers and old alike are innovating and reshaping their game, inventing new shots, and coming up with new mystery deliveries,” wrote Richards in his TOI column.

Cricketers adopting as the game is changing: Richards

According to Richards, the overall level of the game has increased due to the tournaments like IPL. Richards felt that the current cricketers are adopting themselves as the game continues to evolve quickly. “The face of the game is beginning to change, and cricketers today are looking to keep adapting to stay with it. It pleases me to see that the overall level of cricket as a game is increasing due to these kinds of tournaments that put the young and old, the amateur and the experienced together,” Richards wrote in the piece.

Viv Richards spoke highly of the IPL and suggested that IPL has always given importance to the youngsters which have helped them gain a lot of experience.
