IPL 2018 Auction shatters previous records as 77000 Tweets rule the social media

A few records in terms of Tweets have been smashed with this edition of the IPL auction.

The Indian Premier League’s (IPL 2018) 2-day auction saw some lives get changed. A number of Indian domestic players, overseas players, and marquee players were sold for some massive prices with a number of franchises fighting over the players. The auction was telecasted live on TV. The auction was one of the trending topics on the social media from the day 1 of the auction. On Twitter, the IPL auction was talked a lot as the previous time’s record was shattered.

The two-day bidding auction saw over 770,000 tweets on the platform where the Twitter users were showing their joy or their displeasure over the proceedings. The auction saw 335% increase in the numbers than the earlier year.

Ben Stokes rendered a hot topic on Twitter

Last year, the hashtag IPL 2018 Auction was discussed on Twitter as many as 230,000 times with England all-rounder Ben Stokes being the hot topic as the left-hander was the most expensive player in the auction. The star-allrounder whose availability for the tournament still remains doubtful was sold for a whopping 12crores and was bought by Rajasthan Royals. As soon as Royals won the bidding war, the Twitter went crazy one more time.

Kings XI Punjab team owner and Bollywood actress Preity Zinta was trying to bid for almost every player who came under the hammer, the Twitter went crazy and a number of memes were poured in on the micro-blogging site.

Jaydev Unadkat, became the 2nd most expensive player in the auction as the Royals made sure he plays alongside the most expensive player in the 11th edition of the IPL

India’s U19 players in the form of Prithvi Shaw, Shivam Mavi, Shubman Gill and Kamlesh Nagarkoti too were bought for huge money and they too became hot topics on the social media site.

Explosive batsman Chris Gayle had a horrible start as the West-Indian went unsold on the first day of the auction. He was one of the biggest talk of the town as the highest run-scorer of the T20 went unsold. When eventually the batsman was picked on the 2nd day, Twitter was joyous over the news.

With the auction done and dusted, once the tournament starts in April later this year, It will be interesting to see If it can break the previous records.
