The Chennai Super Kings are one of the most successful franchises in Indian Premier League history. CSK has provided countless memories to its fans and players, winning four titles under MS Dhoni’s leadership. The former Indian captain has played an important role in the franchise’s championship run.

Furthermore, the franchise has been able to groom a diverse range of Indian players, contributing to the growth of Indian cricket. Since the inception of the IPL, CSK has provided a platform for all cricketers to thrive.

CSK has played a significant role in shaping the careers of multiple players, whether it is the redemption of Moeen Ali or the emergence of Ruturaj Gaikwad. However, some players were unfortunately cut from their starting XI on multiple occasions.

In the list, let’s look at 5 players, who hardly got back backing from MS Dhoni in CSK:

1. KM Asif

KM Asif is a tall, lanky speedster from Kerala who can bowl at genuine high speeds on a consistent basis. He was picked up by the Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2018 mega auction and has been in the scheme of things for the team since then. Since 2018, he has managed to play only three IPL matches for the team.

He is a very capable bowler, who bowls at a speed of 140kmph or more. He has some good amount of variations in his arsenal like the Yorker, slower ones and some odd bouncers. Because he has pace, he can bowl the occasional bouncer that hits the batter hard. Surprisingly, CSK lacked a fast bowler in the team, but he wasn’t given enough chances to prove his calibre.

KM Asif has gone through the grind and has performed admirably well in the domestic tournaments. MS Dhoni only played him when Deepak Chahar got injured in the tournament. He is still in his early stages, but he has a respectable economy rate of 8.12 in T20 cricket. Hopefully, in the upcoming mega auction, he will be able to play for another team and prove his worth.
