The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) demolished the Rajasthan Royals (RR) side by 86 runs in the 54th match of the 14th edition of the IPL. Chasing a target of 172 for victory, the Sanju Samson-led side produced a shambolic performance with the willow.
Rahul Tewatia and Shivam Dube were the only batsmen who stood up to the Kolkata bowling attack. While Tewatia scored a 36-ball 44, Shivam Dube scored 18 off 20 deliveries. Also, as many as 3 RR batsmen were dismissed for a duck as well. With the ball, Shivam Mavi scalped 4 wickets, while Lockie Ferguson prized out 3 willow wielders as RR was bowled out for just 85.
Batting first, the Eoin Morgan-led side posted a commanding total of 171/4 on the board. Shubman Gill and Venkatesh Iyer put on an excellent partnership of 79 runs for the opening wicket to set the platform for a big total.
Rahul Tripathi too chipped in with a handy 21 off 14 deliveries for the KKR side with the willow in hand. With the ball, the likes of Chris Morris, Chetan Sakariya, Rahul Tewatia, and Glenn Phillips scalped one wicket each. With this victory, the KKR side has moved to the 4th spot in the IPL points table, while the RR side is stationed at the 7th spot.
KL Rahul’s blazing 98 helps PBKS crush CSK by 6 wickets
KL Rahul was in the mood for annihilation against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) side. The Punjab Kings (PBKS) were set a target of 135 for victory, and KL Rahul demolished the CSK bowling attack to shreds, scoring 98* off just 42 deliveries at the top of the order to help his side canter past the target with 6 wickets to spare.
Rahul’s innings was filled with 7 fours and 8 handsome sixes. In fact, such was the domination from Rahul’s willow that the next highest run-scorer for the Punjab side was Aiden Markram, who scored 13. Shardul Thakur scalped 3 wickets with the ball for the CSK outfit.
Earlier, Faf du Plessis’s sensational 76 off 55 deliveries helped the CSK side post a total of 134/6 on the board. None of the CSK batsmen apart from du Plessis could even cross the 20-run mark. With the ball, Arshdeep Singh and Chris Jordan scalped 2 wickets each for the KL Rahul-led outfit, while Mohammed Shami and Ravi Bishnoi picked up a solitary wicket each.
With this dominating victory, the Punjab Kings side has moved to the 5th spot in the IPL points table, while the CSK side is occupying the 2nd spot.
