Shapoor Zadran has been one of Afghanistan’s gun bowlers in the fast-bowling department. The left-arm seamer has been doing the rounds for quite a while now. He first came to the limelight when he nipped out the wickets of Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir during the national team’s match versus India in the World T20 in Sri Lanka back in 2012.
Recently, the hulk-like fast-bowler played in the three-match T20I series and picked up four wickets in a couple of matches. He was a touch expensive but bowled with speed and venom. Meanwhile, cricketers from the war-stricken nation also participated in the prestigious Indian Premier League. A number of their players were auctioned earlier this year.
This is my favourite team
Rashid Khan and Mohammad Nabi were the lucky ones who were roped in. This time around, Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Zahir Khan Pakteen were also drafted in. At the age of 30, Shapoor hasn’t shelved his dreams to play in the mega event. Recently, he put forth his favourite team for whom he wants to play, provided he gets an opportunity.
“Every cricketer wants to play in the big leagues across the world and I have the same desire. I am confident of playing in the IPL and the Big Bash during the upcoming season. I would love to play for Mumbai Indians as they are my favourite team,” Zadran was quoted as saying by The Indian Express.
Zadran also revealed the tumultuous times when he strained because of injuries and talked about his primary strength in bowling. “For one year I wasn’t in the team. Injuries hampered my progress. But I have developed several skills for T20s during that period. I am focussing a lot on variations as well. But pace remains my primary weapon as batsmen find it difficult to negotiate,” the Paktia Province bowler said.
