Virat Kohli’s romantic affair with cricketing records can transcend the most ethereal of love affairs the world has been a witness to. Every time he steps on the cricket pitch, the statisticians churn out some potential record or the other which Virat can make his own. Thus far, he has done so without much fuss and he is expected to do so until the time when he finally decides to call it quits from the sport.

After a disappointing stint in the IPL, the Delhi-born cricketer is set to take the field in India’s first T20I versus Ireland at the Malahide Cricket Ground in Dublin. His last tour of the United Kingdom (UK) was a horrendous one and he would want to make amends with some solid performances under his belt. Meanwhile, the 29-year old is standing on the threshold of another record.

Another father in Virat’s hat

The Indian skipper is 17 runs short of becoming the quickest batsman to 2,000 T20I runs. The charismatic cricketer has 1983 runs in 57 matches with a herculean average of 50,84. Brendon McCullum and Martin Guptill are second and third on the list with 66 and 68 matches respectively. The Men in Blue will play two T20Is versus Gary Wilson’s men and he is expected to score those many runs.

The batsman also has 18 half-centuries in the shortest format, which manifests his sheer class and hunger to succeed. His job doesn’t end there as India will then travel England for a full-fledged tour of two months, consisting of three T20Is, as many ODIs and five Tests.

He is one of India’s fulcrum in their line and the nation would be hoping for Kohli to come out all guns blazing. Earlier this month, Mithali Raj became the first Indian to accomplish the milestone in the Women’s Asia Cup and Virat is on the way to become the second Indian to achieve the feat.
