Over the last 10 or 12 years, several Indian stars have bid goodbye to the game. Many of these cricketers contributed significantly to Indian cricket and have made a huge impact. However, the way they finished was quite disappointing. Quite of few cricketers who bid goodbye to the game in the last decade couldn’t announce their retirement while on the field. MS Dhoni, who led India for a majority part of the last decade, is also one of them. Considering the same, former all-rounder Irfan Pathan has come up with a unique and brilliant idea that would surely excite the fans.

Irfan Pathan has proposed a match between an eleven formed by the retired players and the current Indian team. This match will be a charity match and the funds will be used for a noble cause. Moreover, this game doubles up as a farewell game for the retired players. The Pathan brothers, along with their father, have always been involved in several charity works. This game can be one of those which the aficionadi will remember for a long time for all the good deeds that come along.

Indian stalwarts in the proposed Retired XI

Irfan Pathan has also selected the Retired XI that should feature in this game. This team selected by the Baroda cricketer covers all the bases. Moreover, it will surely take the fans back in time, to the golden days of Indian cricket.

Opening the innings in this team will be all-time favourite pair of Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir. While the former brings in the aggressive flavour, the latter will add a sense of calm. No one else but ‘The Wall’, Rahul Dravid can be imagined at the No. 3 position. He will be followed by the magician with the wrists, VVS Laxman, at number four. All-rounder Yuvraj Singh will bat at No. 5, a position where he registered some unbelievable knocks. He can also chip in with his spin bowling.

Suresh Raina will follow Yuvi at No.6 and he can be a handy bowler too. Former Indian captain MS Dhoni will bat at No. 7 and will also keep the wickets for the Retired XI. Irfan Pathan himself will come in next and will also be an important part of the bowling attack. Ajit Agarkar and Zaheer Khan will complete the pace bowling unit. Pragyan Ojha, who is one of the fastest to 100 Test wickets will complete this team.

It will be nothing but nostalgia watching this team in action. They can surely give a tough fight to Virat Kohli and co. and it will be absolute fireworks when they take the field.

Irfan’s tweet read, “Many people are talking about a farewell game for retired players who didn’t get a proper send-off from the game. How about a charity cum farewell game from a team consisting of retired players vs the current Indian team?”
