IPL 2022 is all set to see a mega auction ahead of it where franchises have been set with a November 30 deadline to submit their list of retained players. Talking about CSK, it has been reported that they have retained legendary skipper MS Dhoni, young star Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ravindra Jadeja, and Moeen Ali.
In the latest turn, former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan has stated his four picks that CSK should retain. He picked Dhoni, Jadeja, and Gaikwad and chose Ali for the fourth spot. Pathan added that South Africa star Faf du Plessis is already 37-year-old and might not be a future prospect. Hence, he chose Ali as his final pick.
“Mahendra Singh Dhoni yes, Ravindra Jadeja yes, Ruturaj Gaikwad absolutely yes. You might see the future in him as far as the leadership is concern, what he has shown consistency, that has been outstanding. But the fourth one? Sometime back I was thinking about Faf du Plessis, he is 37-year-old. You don’t wanna let go of an all-rounder, either it’s Sam Curran or Moeen Ali. I would go with Moeen Ali for the fourth spot,” said Pathan while speaking to Star Sports.
Irfan Pathan opens on players MI should retain
Earlier, Pathan also spoke about the retained players of Mumbai Indians. He stated that he isn’t sure if investing in Hardik Pandya would be the right call given the form he has shown in the last year. In that case, they might go for Ishan Kishan. It has to be noted that MI were reported retaining skipper Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah and were in talks with all-rounder Kieron Pollard. They were also reported of signing star batter Suryakumar Yadav.
“Ishan Kishan could be the first pick for Mumbai Indians. As for Hardik Pandya, you have got to understand. His form has dipped big time in the last one year, so MI would be aware of that. Quite a few things go on when you have to make the first four picks before the auction. So, I feel they would look at the longevity and think – can we invest in Hardik Pandya or in Ishan Kishan? The future. Looking at that, they might go for Ishan Kishan and then maybe Hardik Pandya,” said Pathan.
