The former India skipper Kapil Dev has opened up on Virat Kohli’s comments that he made in the press conference on Wednesday, December 15. Kohli stated that he wasn’t asked by any of the board members to continue as the T20I skipper. This contradicted the statement made by the BCCI president Sourav Ganguly recently.

Ganguly had reckoned last week that he had personally urged Kohli to continue as T20I skipper. Thus, Kohli’s statement revealed the tension between him and the administration. According to Dev, it is not the right time to discuss the matter as India is scheduled to take on the challenge against South Africa.

“It is not good to point fingers on anybody at this point in time. The South Africa tour is coming and please pay attention to the tour. I would say the Board president is the Board president but yes the Indian cricket team captain is also a big thing. But talking badly about each other in public, I don’t think it is a good thing, whether it is Sourav or Kohli,” Kapil told ABP News.

It’s better to think about the country: Kapil Dev

India and South Africa are staged to play three Test matches and as many ODIs starting from December 26. The former India cricketer thus urged Kohli to take the control of the situation and prioritize the country. He further added that it is not right to stoke a controversy just before a pivotal tour.

“Aap situation ko control kijiye, behtar ye hai ki aap desh ke baare mein sochiye (Please control the situation and it’s better to think about the country now). Jo galat hai woh kal pata chal hi jayega but I don’t think it is right to stoke a controversy before a tour,” Dev added.

Previously there were speculations that Kohli will not be available for the ODIs against the Proteas. The swashbuckling batter however brushed aside all the rumors and stated that he is available for selection for the 50 over matches. He also spoke about the rumors of his alleged rift with Rohit and said that things are all well and that there are no problems at all between the two.
