VVS Laxman was one of the stylish batsmen during his playing days. Fans used to love the way he played his wristy flicks. His favourite opposition was the best team of that era, Australia. Laxman churned runs for fun in his career against Australia which is why the former Aussie pacer Brett Lee has showered praises on his Indian counterpart and praised his technique.

The Hyderabad cricketer slammed 2434 runs in 29 Test matches against them with the help of six centuries. The average of almost of 50 in the longest format against the best team proves how much he loved batting. Moreover, Laxman’s first four of the six ODI centuries also came against the Men in Yellow with Lee being part of the bowling attack in the three of them.

Speaking about his batting in Star Sports’ Cricket Connected, the pace bowler lauded the batsman’s technique stating that it was tough to breach his defence. “It was so hard to get through his technique, a beautiful technique, wasn’t scared of the ball, had a lot of time and great foot movement,” he said.

He had that cheekiness about him, says Brett Lee of Laxman

Brett Lee recalled bowling to VVS Laxman and felt that he was one of those batsmen when on song, never cared about the pace of the bowl and even the bowler and was adamant only at making the opposition pay and hurt. Lee also praised his ability to bide through the tough times and cash in at the right time while also conceded that he enjoyed bowling to Laxman.

“He had that cheekiness about him and that cheekiness in a batsman is hard sometimes because when they’re cheeky and on song, they don’t care who’s bowling at what pace, they’ll get through it and they’ll make you pay and hurt. And VVS sort of had that knack of knowing when a person’s about to get through his spell. He would get through the tough time and then cash in when need to. It was great fun to bowl against him,” the 43-year-old added.
