When it comes to playing in Pakistan, there are very few international players who agree to it and the reasons are obvious. Ever since the terrorist attack took place on the Sri Lanka team bus in 2009, the players have been scared of travelling to the country. In fact, it took Pakistan six years to convince an international team to visit them when Zimbabwe played against them in 2015.

Fortunately, things have been changing in the last couple of years. In 2017, an ICC World XI visited Pakistan for a three-match T20I series before Sri Lanka and Windies also followed suit. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) have also conducted some Pakistan Super League games in the country. However, the majority of international players are still not ready to visit due to security concerns. But Lahore Qalandars’ star Anton Devcich is an exception.

Ahead of the fourth edition of the Pakistan Super League, the New Zealand player expressed his delight over being part of the Lahore-based franchise before insisting that he is excited to play in Lahore.

“It’s a great family to be part of. Hopefully this year we will push for the final bid. Hopefully, I will contribute to a good winning team. Its really fun to come back. It will be really amazing to see people coming out to support Lahore,” he said. “Hopefully we will see the sea of green when we get over there,” he said according to Geo TV.

Qalandars eye improved show

The Lahore-based outfit will be looking to finally put up a good show after three forgettable seasons. In the first three seasons, they could not progress ahead of the group stage, finishing with the wooden spoon on all the occasions. But with the likes of AB de Villiers, Carlos Brathwaite, Corey Anderson, Fakhar Zaman and other big names in the team, they will be looking to put up a good show this year. Qalandars will kickstart their campaign against defending champions Islamabad United on Wednesday.
