'It would probably be T20Is' - David Warner likely to retire from the shortest format after World Cup 2021

Playing three formats and the various T20 leagues more often than not take a toll on the cricketers. This has led to a few either retiring from one of the formats or taking an indefinite break to prolong their respective international careers. David Warner could be another player who might do the same as he is considering retiring from the T20 format after the T20 World Cup in 2021 which is set to be played in India.

The southpaw who won the Allan Border medal, the highest honour in Australian cricket, on Monday is willing to spend more time with the family. He also highlighted the amount of cricket being played throughout and how it is difficult to stay away from his loved ones needing to travel all the time.

“Having three young kids and my wife at home all the time, constant travelling becomes very difficult. If it was to come down to (leaving out) one format, it would probably be the international T20s,” David Warner was quoted as saying by India Today.

“If you look at T20 internationals, we’ve got back-to-back World Cups as well, that’s probably a format that could be one I’d probably drop in a few years. I have to look at the schedule; it’s going to be very difficult (for me) to play all three forms, and good luck to all the guys who want to keep playing that. You talk to guys like AB de Villiers and Virender Sehwag, these guys who’ve done it for a long time, it does become challenging,” he added.

I took a break during the BBL

David Warner decided against playing the Big Bash League (BBL) which concluded recently when most of his teammates took part in it. Speaking of the same, the 33-year-old explained that he needed a break from continuous cricket and wanted to get ready for the next international series in line.

“I don’t have a BBL team; I took a break during this period, and that was about my body and my mind, making sure I’m getting ready for the next series that comes up,” he further said. David Warner has been a crucial part of Australia’s plans in the upcoming T20 World Cup at home and has played 76 T20 Internationals thus far scoring 2079 runs with 15 half-centuries and a century.
