The 18-year-old Jason Sangha’s talent was on display during England’s last warm-up match ahead of the Ashes series as the youngster scored a brilliant hundred. The Australian scored 133 in the 2nd innings to ensure his team Cricket Australia XI avoided an innings defeat. The CA XI conceded 515 to the visiting side after getting bowled out for 250 in their first innings. They posted 364/4 in the 2nd innings to draw the game.

Sangha, playing only his the 2nd first-class match, bagged a duck in the first innings. However, he made the 2nd chance count with a fighting inning. He and the CA XI captain Matthew Short, put on a huge 263-run stand for the 4th wicket after they were 87/3. Sangha scored 133 off 226 balls with 13 fours and a six before getting out to Mason Crane. Short remained unbeaten on 134 with 11 fours and a six off 264 balls. This was the maiden FC ton for Short as well, who was playing in his 5th first-class match.

At the age of 18 years and 68 days, Jason became the 2nd youngest player to score hundred in first-class cricket against England. Pakistan’s Mushtaq Mohammad at 18 years and 246 days scored a Test hundred against England in 1962. Gursharan Singh and Adrian Barath also scored centuries before turning 19 in the FC games against the touring England International side.
