Jerome Taylor left out of WI squad for remainder of tri-series

West Indies fast bowler Jerome Taylor has been left out of the final leg of the ongoing tri-nation One-Day International (ODI) series featuring Australia and South Africa, the team’s cricket board announced on Saturday (June 18). His poor tally of 2 wickets in four games is expected to the reason behind exclusion from the squad mid-way through the series.

The board has not named any replacement for Taylor. This leaves the team management a squad of only 13 players to choose from for the remainder of the games.

Taylor, 31, played in each of West Indies’ four fixtures across the Guyana and the St. Kitts leg of the tournament bowling at an average of 79.50 and an economy rate of 6.91. In the Wednesday’s humiliating defeat to South Africa, the fast bowler leaked 72 runs from eight overs as South Africa raced to 343 in the first innings with the help of Hashim Amla’s spectacular series. The hosts failed miserably in all departments

The final leg of the Tri-Series is set to be played at Barbados where each team will play the other and the top teams will qualify for the final. After the St Kitts and Guyana legs, Australia, West Indies and South Africa have two wins and two defeats each. Since West Indies conceded a bonus point against South Africa and Australia, the hosts are at the bottom of the table.
