South Africa is set to lock horns with India in a five-match Twenty20 International (T20I) series starting on June 9 (Thursday). The first match will be played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi, and South African spinner Tabraiz Shamsi wrote about the city’s scorching heat ahead of the series on Monday. The series will be concluded on June 19 at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore.
With Delhi’s weather being merciless over the summer and with thermometers consistently reading over 40 degrees Celsius, playing in such hot conditions will be a challenge for both the contingents. Shamsi initially commented about Delhi reaching 42 degrees Celsius, to which several cricket fans replied in hilarious manners. The left-armer responded, wondering how people survived in such heat. According to NDTV, six localities in Delhi breached the 45-degree Celsius mark on Monday.
“Just a cool 42 degrees outside, not hot at all lol,” wrote Shamsi on Twitter. In response to a tweet – “43 in Lahore”, the left-arm spinner replied, “How do people survive in this heat.”

There are several young faces in the Indian camp and a few making comebacks, with batters Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ishan Kishan, Deepak Hooda, all-rounders Axar Patel, Venkatesh Iyer, wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik, spinner Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, and pacers Avesh Khan, Umran Malik and Arshdeep Singh, making the squad. Proteas side, led by Temba Bavuma, has included uncapped wicketkeeper, Tristan Stubbs, and pacer Wayne Parnell, who returns after playing his last T20I game in 2017.
With India resting skipper Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul will be in charge as the stand-in skipper for the team. The Men in Blue will also be without star players Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah for the series. Following a successful Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 season with Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), wicketkeeper Karthik returns to the squad. This will be the debut series for Arshdeep, who was a regular starter for his IPL team Punjab Kings (PBKS), and also for Malik, who was the Emerging Player of IPL 2022 with Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) with his searing pace and wicket-taking abilities.
