Mumbai Indians’ chances of making it to the playoffs keep getting slim after every match, as the five-time champions have failed to get their first points of the tournament in IPL 2022, and have lost all the six games played so far. While the fans wait for some miracle to happen, former MI player Mitchell McClenaghan has a piece of advice for the pacers in the team.

McClenaghan played for Mumbai Indians between 2015 and 2019, and was an important part of the team. He scalped 71 wickets in the 56 matches that he played during those five years, and won the championship title thrice with the team.

In a video shared by the franchise on their social media handle, McClenaghan is seen interacting with the hosts of MI Live. During the conversation, he was asked about the advice he would like to give to the left-arm pacers in the team who are playing in Indian conditions, to which he said:

“I was very lucky to play with people like Malinga and Bumrah, and obviously, Mitch Johnson was great and the likes of that. So, I think very, very fortunate and I think the left arm pacers, you have to use your variations but you also gotta know your match-ups. So, I would say to the guys now, just trust.”

“You’ve got one of the best bowling coaches in the world, if not the best. He always comes with a plan. So just back the plan and try and execute whatever Mahela and Rohit put in place, just try and execute that; go with the team plan probably more so than yourself,” he added.

Kieron Pollard was the toughest batter to bowl to: McClenaghan

He also talked about the batter he feels was the toughest to bowl in the nets out of Rohit Sharma and Kieron Pollard, during his time with the team as he said: “Ro was always laid down, so I did not have to ever bowl to Rohit, to be honest. Polly was always really really challenging to bowl.”

Mumbai Indians will face their arch-rivals Chennai Super Kings in their next encounter at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on 21 April as Rohit & Co. will continue to look for their first win of the tournament.
