Martin Guptill, who plays for Mumbai Indians in the IPL, visited the Dharavi slums of the financial capital to hang out with children. The New Zealand batsman visited the locality in Mumbai to get a tour and played cricket with the kids. Dressed in a black T-shirt with shades, Guptill was captured bowling easy and posing for photos.
The Kiwi player had gone unsold at the auction, which baffled many, after the start of the league he was roped in by Mumbai Indians as a replacement for Lendl Simmons. But he’s only played one fixture since – against SRH on 18th April where he could only score 2 runs.
Big-hitting Guptill is also set to join Lancashire as they look to defend their England’s T20 Blast title before international commitments in Zimbabwe and South Africa take precedence. The 29-year-old heads to Old Trafford for the Lightning’s first six games after his stint in India. Guptill, who previously represented English county Derbyshire, was a key acquisition, according to Lancashire’s cricket director and head coach Ashley Giles. He is the third-ranked T20I batsman in world cricket will continue his association with explosive England wicketkeeper Jos Buttler, who is also on the Mumbai’s roster.
Guptill was recently named the captain of the Guyana Amazon Warriors for this year’s Caribbean Premier League. Guptill will be one of four Kiwis in the Carribean competition. Former Black Caps skipper Brendon McCullum is the marquee player for the Trinbago Knight Riders, where he will be joined by Black Caps power-hitter Colin Munro and Northern Districts all-rounder Anton Devcich.
