Ever since KL Rahul made his debut, he has been a revelation for India, especially at the top of the order. In Test cricket, he has been able to cement his spot on the back of some marvelous performances. However, he hasn’t quite been able to replicate the same form in the One Day format.

Rahul was in the squad for India’s erstwhile ODI series against Australia, but couldn’t get a game. Things went from bad to worse when he was omitted from the team for the Men in Blue’s ongoing series against New Zealand. However, KL Rahul has been picked for the T20I series against New Zealand and for the Test series against Sri Lanka.

Dada questions Dinesh Karthik’s spot in ODI side

In an exclusive interview with India Today, former Indian captain, Sourav Ganguly said that KL Rahul should immediately be brought into the ODI squad and also questioned Dinesh Karthik’s spot in the team.

“I am not too happy seeing KL Rahul out of the squad because he is a player for the future. Dinesh Karthik made his debut in 2007 with us and it has been 10 years but he has not been able to get a permanent place in the side which speaks a lot about how he has gone about his cricketing career in the last 10 years,” Ganguly quoted.

The left-handed batsman also hailed Rahul as a versatile batsman who can score runs in different conditions. “With KL Rahul, he is someone who has scored runs all around the world, whether it is Australia, Sri Lanka or West Indies. I think KL Rahul should be brought back into this team as soon as possible because I think he is a serious talent. KL Rahul’s record and quality and also because he is young, he should be included in the squad,” he added.

One for the future

Rahul might have struggled lately, but with the skill set he possesses, he can turn out to be a stalwart in the Indian batting lineup. Dinesh Karthik might be experienced, but Rahul has age on his side. The 25-year old should be nurtured with utmost care by the cricket board as he has the ingredients to make it count at the international circuit.
