Kraigg Brathwaite replaces Jason Holder as West Indies Test skipper

The West Indian cricket team has a major announcement to make. It has been revealed that Jason Holder will no longer be the Test captain of the West Indian side, and instead, Kraigg Brathwaite will don the skipper’s hat.
Brathwaite will now be the permanent skipper for the side, starting with the Test series against Sri Lanka at home that commences on 21st March 2021. Brathwaite also reacted to the news and said that it was a huge honor for him to captain the West Indies side. He added that he was proud and humbled to have been given the responsibility of leading the team.
Brathwaite further stated that he is looking forward to the Test series against Sri Lanka at home, and said that he is really excited about the prospects of his side.
“It is a huge honor to be given the captaincy of the West Indies Test team. I feel extremely proud and humbled that the board and selectors have given me the opportunity and responsibility to lead the team. The recent Test series win in Bangladesh was a fantastic achievement and I’m really looking forward to the upcoming home series against Sri Lanka, and I’m excited about what I believe this team can achieve in the future,” said Brathwaite as quoted by Cricinfo.
West Indies selector backs Kraigg Brathwaite
The selector of the West Indian side, Roger Harper said that everybody in the West Indies camp believes that Brathwaite is the right person to lead the side. He added that Brathwaite has already been able to motivate his teammates successfully and had already created a culture where the team shows the zeal to fight and a hunger to succeed.
“We all believe that Kraigg is the right man to lead our Test side at this point in time and I’m delighted that he has accepted the role. In the recent Test series against Bangladesh, Kraigg was able to motivate his players to play to a very high level and create the culture we are looking to establish where the team showed a collective determination to fight and a real hunger for success,” concluded Harper.
Brathwaite is a veteran of West Indian cricket and has featured in 66 Test matches. He has also scored 3876 runs with the willow and has scored them at an average of 32.57. The 28-year-old will be looking to start his stint as the captain by leading his side to a win over Sri Lanka in the first Test at Antigua.
