Krishmar Santokie under scanner after delivering massive wide and no-ball in BPL 2019-20

Krishmar Santokie, the left-arm pacer from West Indies is currently the part of Sylhet Thunder in BPL 2019-20 and his performance in the first match has been brought under the scanner. Tanjil Chowdhury, the owner of Thunder has revealed that he has asked to lodge an investigation on the wide and no-ball bowled by the pacer in the opening game against Chattogram Challengers.

The 34-year-old pacer donned West Indies jersey in 12 T20Is and grabbed 18 wickets. He played his last international match back in 2014 and afterwards he was ruled out from the national team on the back of his inconsistent performances.

Santokie bowled a big no-ball and wide ball in the opening match and Chowdhury has revealed that he has filed a complaint about that act and soon the pacer will be called by Bangladesh Cricket Board. He also added that picking up the best playing XI for the match is in the hands of team management and nobody can interfere in it. When he asked the sponsor if they hampered the team selection before the match, they remained tight-lipped over it.

Tanjil also recited that the sponsor of the team Jivani Footwear Company had forced the team director to pick certain players in the BPL draft like Santokie and Sohag Gazi. According to him, they had the chance to get Nayeem Sheikh and other players but they were forced to pick sponsor’s preferred players. This is the main reason behind doubting them and he has informed about the same to BCB President and governing body.

“The no-ball that he bowled is suspicious. He [Santokie] is not yet called by the BCB but I have lodged my complaint. I verbally requested CEO and Morshed [BCB anti-corruption head] to investigate the matter[ no ball]. We [BCB director] don’t have anything to do with the playing XI. It is up to the management and the coach. I asked the sponsors whether they interfered in the playing XI and they are refusing to say anything.

“Now we have to talk with the team management and know whether anyone influenced them to play Santokie because it seems he is associated with spot-fixing. We had the chance to pick Nayeem Sheikh and other players. But they preferred to pick players like Sohag Gazi and Santokie. That is the reason we have started doubting them. I have informed BCB governing council members and the BCB president,” Tanjil Chowdhury, the director of Sylhet Thunder said as quoted by Cricbuzz.

Sylhet Thunder lost their season opener against Challengers by five wickets and now they will lock horns with Rajshahi Royals on December 13.
