The just-concluded third Ashes Test will go down in history as one of the best and most exhilarating Tests of all time. In a game where fortunes swung from one side to another, Ben Stokes played an all-time classic to seal the matter in his team’s favour. When day two ended, it looked all over for England. The hosts were all out for just 67 to hand Australia a big 112-run lead. Who would have thought that the same team will chase down 359.

But in the end, England did the unimaginable, thanks to Stokes’ superman efforts. England’s chances seemed to have ended when their number eleven Jack Leach joined Stokes in the middle with still 73 runs needed. The game was firmly titled in Australia’s favour before Stokes decided to take the high route. The all-rounder, who guided England to a historic World Cup triumph just weeks ago, launched a stunning counter-assault to leave the visitors shell shocked.

It was raining sixes and fours at Headingley as Stokes looked unstoppable. Stokes did not spare a single bowler during his heroic knock. After the fall of the ninth wicket, Stokes blasted four fours and a staggering seven sixes. Luck was also on Stokes’ side. In the course of a crazy over from Nathan Lyon, Stokes was dropped on long-rope before Lyon himself missed an easy run-out chance.

He then missed a sweep shot that replays showed would have hit the stumps. However, the on-field umpire Joel Wilson declined the appeal and Australia had already wasted their final right to review an over earlier. In the end, Stokes sealed the game with a four to send his entire nation crazy. The five-match series is now levelled at 1-1. A loss for England in this game would have seen Australia retain the urn.

English ladies celebrate in style

While the fans and others were glued to their television sets to witness Ben Stokes’ heroics, some of the English players could not get that luxury. Two of them were England women team’s stars Nat Sciver and Sarah Taylor. Both were batting for Surrey when the Ashes was underway. However, it did not stop them from celebrating the win in a brilliant manner.

Both of them were standing on the pitch when they saw the news of Stokes’ sealing the game. The two met in the middle and fist pumped in delight to celebrate the historic win.
