One would have felt Ben Stokes produced his career-best performance during the World Cup final last month when England claimed its maiden World Cup title. However, less than 50 days after his performance, the all-rounder turned up with one of the greatest ever knocks in the history of Test cricket. His unbeaten 135 in the Leeds Test powered England to their highest successful Test chase. Stokes added 76 runs for the final wicket alongside Jack Leach to keep England alive in the Ashes.

All the stats and records from Ben Stokes’ sensational hundred in the Headingley Test:

Ben’s Record knock:

135* – Ben Stokes’ unbeaten 135-run knock is the 3rd highest individual score in a successful Test chase for England. Mark Butcher scored 173* also against Australia in a Leeds Test in 2001 while Jack Brown scored 140 in the 1895 Melbourne Test also against the Aussies. Hebert Sutcliffe also scored 135 during the 1928 MCG Test.

135* – The 135* by Stokes is the 5th highest individual score during a successful chase while batting at No.5 or lower position. Brian Lara against Australia in 1999 Bridgetown Test and Kusal Perera in the Durban Test against South Africa this year scored exactly 153* while batting at No.5.

2010 – The last instance of an England player scoring a century in a successful Test chase was Sir Alastair Cook (109*) in 2010 against Bangladesh in the Dhaka Test. Stokes’ 135* is the highest 4th innings individual score for England while batting at No.5 or a lower position.

A first of its kind from Stokes:

1 – Ben Stokes is the first player in Test history to score a century in a successful Test chase after taking 4 or more wickets. Only three players including Stokes have scored a 4th innings ton in Test cricket after picking up 4+ wickets.

Daniel Vettori (140 & 5/166) during the 2009 Colombo (SSC) Test against Sri Lanka and Roston Chase (101* & 5/134) in the 2017 Roseau Test against Pakistan scored 4th innings centuries after taking 5 wickets apiece but both the players ended on the losing side.

Stokes deals in sixes:

8 – Number of sixes Ben Stokes hit during unbeaten century; the most by any player in an Ashes innings. Kevin Pietersen’s seven sixes during the 2nd innings of the 2005 Test at The Oval were the previous most sixes in an Ashes innings.

8 – Ben Stokes’ 8 sixes are the 3rd most by any player in the 4th innings of a Test match. Nathan Astle struck 11 maximums during his 222 against England in the 2002 Christchurch Test. Tim Southee hit nine sixes during his unbeaten 77 in the 2008 Napier Test also against England.

8 – The 8 sixes Stokes hit during his century are the 3rd most by any player for England in a Test inning. Stokes hit a record 11 sixes during his career-best of 258 against South Africa in the 2016 Cape Town Test. Wally Hammond smashed ten maximums during his unbeaten 336 against New Zealand in the 1933 Auckland Test.

A proper all-rounder:

2 – Only on two instances a player batted 200+ balls and bowled 200+ balls in the same Ashes Test in the last 26 years. Ben Stokes bowled exactly 200 balls in this Test and batted 232 deliveries. The other such instance in this period was also recorded by Stokes during the 2013 Perth Test.
