For fans, it may sound surprising, but former Sri Lankan cricketer Kumar Sangakkara has planned to start subsistence farming post his complete retirement from all cricketing activities. On a cricket show, Sangakkara who has turned commentator after his retirement stated that he and his wife are keen to provide for themselves and live off the land. He also revealed that it was an old tennis colleague who had given him this idea.

Sangakkara has officiated that this county season will be his last, and throughout, he has been in incredible form with the bat. He notched up his 100th century in professional cricket across formats yesterday, following a five consecutive century run in the County Championship, which is phenomenal, to say the least. This was his second century in the Royal London One Day Cup. His average this season is 88.40.

Sangakkara was also among the cricketers who were chosen as commentators for the ICC Champions Trophy 2017. However, his commentary stint in the tournament was only a short one, and citing the amount of travelling a permanent commentary job would take, he rejected the offer. Unlike other greats from his generation, like Rahul Dravid or Inzamam-ul-Haq, it is surprising that the Sri Lankan great does not want to be associated with the game after retirement, not in any form.

Another milestone in his storied career

“I felt pretty good,” Sangakkara told Sky Sports. “I wasn’t really thinking about that [the landmark], as I was just told when I got in! It hardly matters unless we win this game. Personal achievements are great but you’d rather not score a hundred and still win.” he said after notching up his landmark century yesterday.

The left-hander made 38 Test hundreds from 134 outings and finished his career with an average of 57.40. His one-day international figures are also as remarkable, 404 matches saw him score 25 centuries for an overall average of 41.98.
