Tamil Nadu is one of the most successful domestic sides in the Indian domestic circuit. This year, they made history by winning all the competitions there are to win. The major credit of this has to be given to the development they do at the grass root level.

The Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) is a major success. It has given exposure to the young cricketers which is hard to get. There were some world-class coaches and supporting staff in the tournament and one of those coaches was South Africa’s Lance Klusener.

Lance enjoyed coaching the Lyca Kovai Kings in the first edition of the TNPL. He took the team to the semi-finals in the very first edition of the tournament. Klusener who played for years at the top level said that the standard of cricket is extremely high. To give more good news, Klusener said that he will be returning for the second season of the TNPL.

On his return

Klusener absolutely enjoyed his time with the Kovai Kings last time around. He coached the likes of Washington Sunder, Vijay Shankar who have already shown how big talents they are. Klusener loved the quality of the cricket and said this year more young talent will get the opportunity on the big stage.

“I thoroughly enjoyed the experience last year. I thought the quality of the tournament was top class. If we can build on that in the coming seasons, then we will be giving opportunities to many players to make a mark on the big stage,” Klusener said while talking to TOI on Friday.

On nurturing young talent

Klusener is one of those guys who cannot stay away from cricket. He loves the game through and hence is giving away the knowledge to the young cricketers from Tamil Nadu. He also talked about Washington Sunder and Vijay Shankar.

“TNPL gave platform for domestic talent in Tamil Nadu to flourish. The likes of Washington and Vijay Shankar benefitted from the tournament. Vijay Shankar may not have played in the competition since he was injured but he was part of the Kovai side and the experience he received stood him in good stead. If we can build on the first season of TNPL, then it will bring to the fore a lot of talent,” Klusener revealed.
