Legendary India cricketer Kapil Dev suffers heart attack; undergoes angioplasty

India’s first ever World Cup-winning captain and the legendary cricketer Kapil Dev has undergone Angioplasty after suffering a heart attack on Friday. He is currently admitted in a hospital in Delhi where he underwent the surgery as well. Kapil Dev’s health is stable now according to various reports even as the messages are flooded for him on social media wishing him a speedy recovery.

It is a well-known fact that Kapil led team India to win their first ever ODI World Cup back in 1983. It inspired millions of fans in the country and it is due to that victory, cricket is no less than a religion today in India. Apart from the WC victory, Kapil Dev was also known for his all-round skills and played for his country in 131 Test and 225 ODI matches.

Kapil Dev also had diabetes related health issues

Economic Times journalist Teena Thacker revealed the news of Kapil Dev undergoing surgery after suffering a heart attack on her Twitter handle. Soon the cricketing fraternity hoped for his speedy recovery. It is also being understood that the former cricketer had diabetes related health issues as well.

As far as his career is concerned, Kapil Dev amassed more than 9000 runs in his international career and also picked 434 Test and 253 ODI wickets making him one of the best all-rounders ever. Ever since he has retired from the sport, Team India hasn’t found an able replacement in the team as well.

Moreover, his team’s heroics in 1983 World Cup is all set to be released on the Silver Screen. The movie named ’83 starring Ranveer Singh (as Kapil Dev) and Deepika Padukone was set to go on floors earlier this year. But its release has been delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It is expected to release now on the occasion of Christmas this year.
