Preview

Essex will lock horns with Gloucestershire in the 25th match of the Vitality Blast 2023 at the County Ground in Worcester on May 30. Essex are yet to play their first match of the season so far. Gloucestershire, on the other hand, have played three matches where they have won just one and are sixth in the standings of South Group.

Gloucestershire squared off against Middlesex in their last encounter where Middlesex won the toss and elected to field. Being put to bat first, they had a rather good start where their opening pair had scored 33 runs in just three overs. Miles Hammond came to bat at three and played a brilliant knock of 59 runs. However, the next batters who came could not help and contribute much. A fantastic display of finishing skills was however shown by Graeme van Buuren at the fag end of the innings. This helped the team post a strong total of 181 runs at the loss of nine wickets after the end of the first innings.
In reply, Middlesex had a brilliant start to their chase as they scored 78 runs for their opening partnership in just eight overs. After the fall of the second wicket, they lost a few wickets in succession but their scoring was above par the whole time which did not put extra pressure on them. A good fifth wicket partnership felt they would take the game away but a run-out put another twist in the close encounter. The match went to the very last ball where Gloucestershire bowlers could keep their nerves and hence won the match by just two runs.
Essex would be looking forward to this match and hoping to find their correct combination as soon as possible. They would look to win the match and gain early momentum in the tournament.
