Preview

Essex will lock horns with Sussex in the 55th match of the Vitality Blast 2023 at the County Ground in Chelmsford on June 6. Essex have won and lost two matches each and are placed sixth in the standings of the South Group. Sussex, on the other hand, have won just one match from their five and are eighth in the rankings of the South Group.

Essex had played against Somerset in their last encounter, where Essex won the toss and elected to field. Somerset had a decent start on a rather slow pitch. A few good partnerships were formed here and there, but they kept losing wickets regularly as well. Tom Lammonby and Sean Dickson played some good knocks for the team and guided the team to a decent score of 150 runs. Essex, in reply, did not have a great start as well and kept losing wickets. Michael Pepper played a good knock of 63 runs while the whole team struggled and were bowled out on a score of 139 runs. Hence, Somerset won the match by 11 runs.

Sussex had squared off against Glamorgan in their last match, where Sussex won the toss and elected to field. Glamorgan was completely on fire, and their batters smashed Sussex bowlers around the ground. There was just one individual fifty, which was scored by Chris Cooke, but every other batter performed as well. They set a huge target of 220 runs for their opposition. Sussex did not start well with the chase, losing both their openers cheaply. Tom Alsop and Michael Burgess played some good innings, but it did not prove to be enough. Glamorgan won the match pretty easily by 32 runs.
