Preview

Glamorgan will lock horns with Essex in the 68th match of the Vitality Blast 2023 at the Sophia Gardens in Cardiff on June 9. Glamorgan have won four out of six matches so far and are at the fourth spot in the South Group. Essex, on the other hand, have a similar record but, due to less net run rate, they are placed in the fifth position in the South Group.

Glamorgan squared off against Surrey in their last match, where Surrey won the toss and elected to bat. Surrey had an unrealistic match with the bat where their opening partnership lasted for 115 runs. They lost as many as just two wickets in their entire innings. Although every batter enjoyed their stay at the crease, it was Laurie Evans who had the best time and made the most of it. His century helped Surrey post a mammoth target of 237 runs. Glamorgan did not let go of the chase too easily, but the total was too large to be chased down. Glamorgan lost eight wickets and could only score 171 runs. Surrey won the match easily by 65 runs.

Essex had played against Kent in their last encounter, where Kent won the toss and elected to bat. Kent had a quickfire start, but it was extinguished as soon as they lost their first wicket. They quickly lost four wickets, putting them on the back foot. The sixth-wicket partnership of 45 runs helped them set a decent total of 150 runs at the expense of eight wickets. Essex lost both their openers on ducks, so they also had a horrible start. They kept losing wickets at regular intervals, but Matt Critchley played a great knock, which kept them in the chase, and ultimately won the match by four wickets.
