Traditionally, the Bellerive Oval pitch has not been an ideal surface for batters to bat on. However, due to its genuine bounce, the pitch is widely seen as favouring batters outside of the power play. The Pacers are going to rule with the new ball, and batters will relax following the power play. Dew played an important part on the field; chasing is preferred because battering becomes easier in the second inning; dew also helps batting in nighttime games. ​
