I’ve been waiting a while for my chance and I finally got it today—just wanted to finish strong for the team. As for the power, it comes from my base and my swing. I focused on holding my shape and letting the shots flow. We had some specific training sessions with DK recently, and it paid off tonight. I wasn’t looking at the total—just took it one ball at a time, aiming for boundaries every delivery. Tried to stay calm and stable at the crease. As for being a batter or bowler, I like to keep it balanced, but today wasn’t great with the ball for me (laughs). Thankfully, the others—Dayal, Bhuvi, and Ngidi—stepped up and got the job done.

It was a close contest, and their batters played really well. But hats off to our bowlers—they were outstanding. Dayal is our go-to bowler in crunch situations, and we trusted him again at the death. He’s done it before and delivered once more. I also had belief in Suyash—he’s been impressive for us. It was a 50-50 call, but I backed Dayal and he nailed it. As for Shepherd, smashing those sixes straightaway isn’t easy, but he made it look effortless. It was fun watching from the dugout! Lungi also used his experience brilliantly. Overall, great signs for the team. We’re not thinking about playoffs just yet—just taking it one match at a time. And as for celebrating tonight… maybe a little, but the big party can wait till the end!

I believe I could’ve played a few more impactful shots to ease the pressure—so I take responsibility for that. Shepherd was outstanding in the death overs, finding boundaries off everything we bowled. We clearly need to work more on executing yorkers. When batters start connecting, yorkers become crucial. If those don’t land, a low full toss is your next best bet. Pathirana has the speed and can use the bouncer, but a missed yorker can still be punished. Many of our batters aren’t yet confident with shots like the paddle sweep—something essential in the modern game. Jadeja can play it, but today he focused more on playing straight. While batting has been a slight concern this season, I felt we batted quite well as a group today.
