Preview

South Delhi Superstarz (SDS) will face East Delhi Riders in the first match of the Delhi Premier League 2025 on Saturday, August 2, at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. It will be a rematch from last season’s final, which the Delhi Riders won by three runs after posting a total of 183 runs for the loss of five wickets on the board.

The Delhi Riders decided to release their captain, Himmat Singh, before the auction and retained wicketkeeper-batter Anuj Rawat. Rawat will captain the side this year. Himmat will play for the newly introduced team, New Delhi Tigers, this season. The team spent INR 26 lakh on Mayank Rawat. He was the fifth-most expensive player in the auction. Sujal Singh was a big player for the team as well and was picked for INR 19 lakh. Navdeep Saini is there in the squad as well, and he is the only player with international experience in the squad.

The Superstarz retained their skipper, Ayush Badoni, from last season, and he will captain the team once again this season. The team bought Digvesh Rathi in the auction for INR 38 lakh, and he was the second-most expensive player in the auction. Both players played for the Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL this year.

The Delhi Riders won seven out of 10 games last season and finished in first place. The Superstarz were in second position with six wins to their name in 10 matches. The Delhi Riders won both their matches against the Superstarz last season, while one of their matches was abandoned.
