UP Warriorz Women (UP-W) will take on Gujarat Giants Women (GUJ-W) in the 3rd game of the WPL 2023 on Sunday (March 5) at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Mumbai. UP Warriorz Women are owned by Capri Global Holdings Pvt Ltd. They have picked 16 players in the player auction in February. Australian wicketkeeper-batter Alyssa Healy has been named captain of the team. The Giants are owned by Adani Group and picked a total of 18 players in the auction last month. They have named Beth Mooney the captain, while Indian all-rounder Sneh Rana has been chosen as the vice-captain.
The Women’s Premier League was no less than a dream for players as well as cricket fans across the world. The league finally started on Saturday with the opening match between Gujarat Giants Women and Mumbai Indians Women. The Giants won the toss and chose to field. Mumbai lost a wicket early but then never did look back after it. They were off to a flier, thanks to brilliant batting performances from the star picks - Hayley Matthews and Nat Sciver-Brunt. They kept the scoreboard ticking, and when the partnership broke, the captain Harmanpreet Kaur arrived at the crease and wreaked havoc. She smashed the first half-century of WPL off just 22 balls. Amelia was later passed the baton and provided an excellent finish to the innings. MI put up a massive total of 207 runs for the loss of five wickets.
Gujarat started horribly as their captain, Beth Mooney, suffered some injury and was taken out of the ground. Gujarat never recovered from this shock as they lost four wickets inside the powerplay. Only two of their batters could register a score in double-digits. Saika Ishaque walked over Gujarat completely as she took a four-fer. Mumbai won the match very easily and historically by a huge margin of 143 runs. Captain Harmanpreet was adjudged Player of the Match due to her brilliant batting display.
