Ambati Rayudu is not having the best of times in his cricketing career. The Hyderabadi lad missed out on the flight to England for the ICC World Cup 2019 thanks to a late slump in form and the sudden emergence of Vijay Shankar as a viable option to him. Otherwise, until the start of 2019, Rayudu had his place cemented as the name for the no.4 spot in the batting lineup.

Then came the ill-fated away tours to Australia and New Zealand and things unravelled quite badly for Rayudu, who completely lost his mojo on bouncy and seaming pitches overseas. Shankar, on the other hand, made himself comfortable on such surfaces and against good bowlers, prompting the Indian selectors to pick him instead for the World Cup.

“We did give a few more chances to Rayudu but what Vijay Shankar offers is three dimensions; apart from his batting, he can bowl. If the conditions are overcast, he might bowl a bit and he is a fantastic fielder,” this is what the chairman of selectors MSK Prasad said about the two players.

Lockie Ferguson also a 3D player

“Just ordered a new set of 3d glasses to watch the World Cup,” Ambati Rayudu wrote on Twitter and took a dig at the chief selector of the BCCI. However, this line of his has also proved to be a meme fodder and many have taken digs at Rayudu including Harsha Bhogle and a whole lot of Indian cricket fans.

Even Lockie Ferguson, the New Zealand and Kolkata Knight Riders’ bowler took an indirect dig at the Indian batsman, posting on his Instagram account while wearing a pair of 3D glasses, “I’m a 3D player too”

Rayudu featured in 55 One-day Internationals (ODIs), scoring 1,694 runs at an average of 47.05. The 33-year-old has three centuries and 10 half-centuries to his name. However, when dug deep, most of his runs came against subpar bowling attacks on batting friendly pitches at home or in Asia.
